Next week kicks off the first-ever virtual Climate Week NYC as wildfires, derechos, and hordes of tropical storms make the consequences of inaction very, very real. To get ready for a week that focuses on solutions to the climate crisis rather than mass panic, here are some of the outstanding green entrepreneurs and investors cleaning up our future.
Eco-cycle in Boulder, Colorado is building models for zero-waste communities. GreenCollar is Australia’s largest provider of carbon abatement, working with land managers to improve their sustainability and identify green income streams. Berlin-based Infarm, a network of urban farms, just raised a $170 million Series C, while India’s UrbanKisaan is backed by Y Combinator and Bollywood stars to expand its vertical farms beyond Hyderabad and Bangalore. Biodiversity, a critical indicator of climate health, is supported by the beekeeper-farmer matchmakers at Brazil’s AgroBee.
In Other News: Food waste, OECD projections
Food waste is a solvable $18 billion problem. Fund managers tend to overestimate the social and environmental impact of their funds. One Kenyan entrepreneur found a new way to tackle PPE waste. What will it take to stop the U.S.’s small business freefall? OECD’s projection for global GDP at the end of this (terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad) year is…terrible, horrible, no-good, and very bad. At least GenZ is building the good kind of robots.
