The companionship provided by furry friends has been invaluable to many of us humans during the coronavirus pandemic. The curative properties of dog-petting and cat-snuggling are well-known, which is why it’s no surprise that a number of social enterprises around the world are dedicated to taking care of pets and connecting their unconditional love with those who need it most.

Since 1996, the team at West Paw, a certified B corp in Montana, has created sustainably made pet toys and treats; another U.S. B corp, Only Natural Pet, sells all-natural pet food and supplements. Canine Perspective in the U.K. uses the profits from its pet training courses to pair teenage sexual assault survivors with rescue dogs as part of their therapy. SomaDetect works with another kind of four-legged animal: cows. Their technology helps farmers gather health information about their cows at each milking. Acer Ecology is a Wales-based wildlife consultancy helping landowners throughout the U.K. measure their impact on non-human inhabitants.
