Sound Businesses: Profiles of companies and business models we are keeping an eye on.

Skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in America, with melanoma, the deadliest type, seeing a breakneck increase in diagnoses in the last 30 years, according to the American Cancer Society.

But one entrepreneur is on a mission to change that. Christian Bailey, Founder and Chief Scientist of Curated Innovation, has together with his team created a technology that allows dermatologists to track skin abnormalities and potentially catch deadly cases of skin cancer early — using a cell phone.

Bailey has started up a number of other health technology companies, but Curated Innovations specializes in commercial prototypes that help solve some of the world’s largest health crises, and is funded by sponsors and impact investors. He also invests in applied-science spinouts from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University through seed stage investor incTANK Ventures.

Karma Contributing Editor Michael Moran caught up with Bailey to learn more about Curated Innovation’s revolutionary technology and its innovative use cases.
